WOWEE! This morning began at 0705 to wake everyone up for breakfast at 0730, which still feels strange to eat breakfast as a group after being on passage for 17 days where we had open breakfast for all those mornings. We had crumpets with honey and jam and yogurt and granola for breakfast. After cleanup, we had a scheduling meeting to plan out our remaining time here in the Azores. For today, we decided on a whole day of free time, meaning we were able to go anywhere around the island and spend our time however we wished. This also meant we had option meals on the boat, or we were free to eat out for lunch and dinner.

My morning consisted of studying with Kayla and Sarah for the nav master exam we had scheduled this evening. Around 1200 we took a break and decided to walk around the town, grab a bite to eat, and go into a few stores. For lunch, we met up with Zoe and Duncan at a tea cafe, where I got a strawberry lemonade, and Kayla got spinach lasagna. Then we stopped in a little pastry shop and enjoyed some freshly baked desserts; I got a chocolate croissant, of course. Afterward, Zoe and I bought matching hoodies from a local shop because all of our clothes were on the laundry mat, and we were running very low on garments. Before heading back to the boat, we stopped in a store and stocked up on chocolate because that’s a must after being at sea for 17 days. Once we were back, I took an hour’s nap and then woke up a little before dinner. Calum was head chef and made bangers and mashed potatoes for those eating on the boat. Shortly after, those of us taking the nav master exam headed to the salon to get started. The exam took me about 2.5 hours which I was only able to manage because Whiskers, our boat cat, joined me :). Once we all finished our exam, we went out for a quick gelato run and got ready for bed once we got back to the boat.
Since we had an optional dinner, I wasn’t able to ask my squeeze question. However, I’ll share what it would have been: What is the breed and name of your dog that you walk on the jack-line when clipped in underway? Mine is a Great Dane named Timothy (Tim for short) because I walk mine very high off the ground.
