Day 30 started off great, with an amazing nights sleep, without the boat rocking. When everyone was woken up for the expected lunch, the chefs were still hard at work cooking. After lunchtime, we had our Boat appreciation day. Boat appreciation day is the day that we put some life back into our beautiful Vela. We spent all the morning and a good chunk of our afternoon leaning above and below deck.
While some were removing salt and stains above deck, there was a group hard at work below deck cleaning dishes and all surfaces that have ever been touched by a human. Some other things on the agenda for today included: taking inventory of all the dry good storage under bunks and giving them a good clean. We worked on the cleanliness of the boat. Meanwhile, Amanda, our amazing provisioner, went to stock up on meals for the rest of our stay in the beautiful Azores. When we were finishing up our BA day, Amanda had just gotten back from her all-day provisioning run. Once she was out of the taxi, we unloaded all the groceries and headed out to the town. Some wanted to adventure a little, and some had their minds set on some snacks from a local grocery store. Around 1800, we all met up at Peter Caf sport, where we had some amazing food, a couple of drinks, and crazy desserts. Some of the foods consumed at dinner included some triggerfish, barracuda, and steak. Tuna steak and limpets. We all celebrated our 17-day passage with a couple of glasses of wine or beer and some delicious ice cream, pie, flambe, or banana split. After dessert, we went for some gelato at a local gelato place. From what I heard, the gelato was amazing.
Around this time, we had to check back in at the boat, just in time for an amazing sunset and, for some people, more gelato. Overall, an amazing fun packed day, and I cant wait to see what is planned for the rest of the week on an island in paradise.
