Location: Underway to Tuamotus
Hey, everybody at home! This morning was a bittersweet morning as we got ready to leave Nuka Hiva. This place and the feeling of coming in and seeing the massive green mountains and cliffs all around us after our eighteen-day passage had definitely made Nuka Hiva one of the favorite locations of the trip thus far, but at the same time, Ahe Atoll is supposed to be incredible in its own way. Anyway, today everyone woke up to Bonkers courtesy of Caro, our honorary co-skipper of the day, and headed up to PB & J bars and then picked up the anchor to head back around to our first bay. We started passage prep on the way over with our student leaders completing their various jobs Jake helming, Jay directing passage prep, James helping Mac with anything engineer related, and our three navigators, Brooks, Morgan C, and Henry, finishing planning out the route for the passage. We made it to the neighboring bay and finished taking off sail covers, putting dive gear away, and putting halyards on the sails, and then we all had a little bit of time to call home before our three-ish day passage to Ahe Atoll. A group of us used some of this time to clean off the bow as the anchor chain had come up ESPECIALLY muddy as we left Daniels Bay and had covered the forward deck in said mud. We pulled out of the bay just before lunch, with a much cleaner anchor, finishing our food and doing a quick clean up before heading back up on deck to put up the Main and Forward Staysails. The sail raise went smoothly with our Skipper and Chief Mate both completing their various jobs, as well as helping to direct the rest of us throughout the process, and then watch team one took over the helm. We all helped do a proper deck wash to remove any of the remaining mud, and then headed down below for an Oceanography class before dinner. For todays class, we had a presentation by James about artificial reefs, and then we had our lecture on Aquaculture. Dinner was rice bowl thanks to our chefs of the day Henry, Emma and Maya L, and then we did squeeze if you and the person to your right started a business together what would it be before fishing our clean up jobs.
To my friends and family at home, miss you all. Sam and Finn, leave my tech shirts where they belong Ill know if you take them
