Walking up the companionway and seeing the beautiful scenery every morning is the best cure for being sleepy due to anchor watch from the previous night. I’m definitely going to miss that. Breakfast this morning was supposed to be Sophie’s famous french toast casserole, but since Asta used all the bread for grilled cheese the previous night, we had yogurt and granola instead. I was quite upset about that. All of us were amused by the superyachts that had been pulling into the bay (anchored a little too close for comfort), which delayed our post-meal clean-up. Following breakfast, we took our last short mini-quiz in Oceanography and then studied for our final exam. Next was Marine Biology, where we took our last fish ID exam (my favorite type of exam) and then had our last lecture :(. Finishing rescue diving was a blast, and we practiced saving an unresponsive diver at about 20 feet deep and bringing them back to the surface. During this course, my BCD broke, and the air was leaking everywhere from it.
Luckily Alexis was a good buddy and shut my air off (at the surface), and Sam helped me get a new BCD, and I was able to finish up the course. After everyone was out of the water, Ash and Steph started panicking in the water as a simulation for our rescue course. We took a little bit to rescue them and could’ve been a lot more efficient, but we still have some more simulation scenarios left to prove we are rescue diver-worthy. After diving, everyone took showers, and some decided to take the time to study for our Navigation Master exam we have tomorrow in Seamanship. Dinner was a Hanukkah special called potato latkes made by Sophie, Steph, and Stef. It was delicious and loved by everyone. After seeing big tarpon swimming next to the boat during dinner, I decided to make my final squeeze question, “What is your favorite fish?” Many of the answers were fish we’ve learned about and seen diving which was very cool.
Anyways, I had a great time writing the trip logs for everyone who reads these and for the last time…
