Location: Underway to Caribbean

The day started early for watch team 4, on duty from midnight to 4 am. Maria (watch team leader for the day), Sabrina, Thatcher, and Luca got their work done. Amelia claimed as many boat checks as she could -and probably finished her book while doing so- and Bryson and Alexa prepared some funny wake-ups for watch team 5. Despite the efforts to keep themselves busy, all agreed it was one of their longest watches. Not for me. I had some really interesting talks with Thatcher and Luca, and the handover came earlier than expected.
Chloe, Teagan, Teo, Hailey, Sam, and Emily, led by Rachel, scrubbed the floors in their8-12watch. After lunch, the crew learnt about evolutionary adaptations in marine species during Oceanography, followed by an entertaining debate on the role of AI, hosted by Aidan in their Leadership lecture.
Today could have been the day we finally spotted whales. During lunch, some claimed they saw some water sprays, but the sightings couldn’t be confirmed.
Today could have been the day we started sailing the Tradewinds. After missing the low pressure system coming from the North, today we expected the Tradewinds to pick up, but nothing so far, the engine will stay on for now.
Today could have been the day we defeated Shane in chess. Sam kept the hopes up for a while, but his opponent showed no mercy. Shane reminded us again why he is the first “mate”.
Almost a week into our Atlantic crossing, the morale of the group is high. The classes, sail handling, and random activities are keeping the students well entertained.
