Location: The Atlantic
Hello, Ben here
We’re one full day into our Atlantic crossing, and things are looking good. This morning, we were treated to an incredible sunrise, and as the students came up on deck for lunch, a huge pod of dolphins approached the boat. We ate some awesome chicken wraps while watching the impressive fin slapping, upside-down swimming, and breaching of the dolphins. The students then had their Oceanography mid-term, followed by a leadership class. Once the academics had concluded, the group sat down to a dinner of Shakshuka.
These are the day’s headlines, and at the surface, it may seem pretty basic, but on passage, the best moments are sometimes the little ones. It might be the chef team of Cat, Jesse, and Smash cooking up a storm in the galley. It could be Mac, Eduardo, Dan, and Brendan fishing off the stern, it could be Theo, Luke, and Chloe quizzing each other before their exam in the cockpit, or it might be Liam, Amy, and Grace playing Cards, maybe its Watson, Eliza, Elis, Lukas, Grace, Audrey and Claire chilling on the bow sprit.
We’ve got another 19-ish days of passage until we get to the Caribbean, so let’s hope morale stays high and the weather remains favorable.
All the best from everyone on Vela.
