Location: Savannah Bay, BVI
Today was our first full day on the boat! We started our day early by eating smoothie bowls for breakfast and getting to know each other better. Afterwards, we learned how to use and put on the three different types of PFDs (Personal Floatation Devices). The Gumby suits were difficult to get into, but very funny to walk around with. We had a race to see who could put it on the fastest. After that was over, we finally set off. Hays and Andrew took the sail covers off while Alex worked the roaming fender so we wouldn’t crash into the dock. Ella and Andrew deflated the fenders afterwards so they wouldn’t take up too much space on the trip. While Dylan, Logan, and Brady took shifts steering us to Savannah Bay, we began our introduction to Argo, our vessel. We learned how it functions and how life is going to be for the next 40 days. Also, while underway, we had a fire drill and quickly brought out the firehose and practiced how to use it. After our drill, we indulged in a lunch of tofu with vegetables, peanut sauce, and rice made by the chefs of the day, Nicole, Lanie, and Alexis.
When we finally arrived at Savannah Bay, Henry helped drop the anchor, and we all got ready for our swim tests. Everybody luckily passed, but Brig swallowed a lot of water. In between activities, Emily and Lana went snorkeling. Next, we got ready for our first dive, where we reviewed skills from years prior. Emma, Mina, and Mimi were looking at a conch shell while Sadie saw a stingray. Avery watched a large fish swim by as well. After our dives, Lizzy took photos, and we took our first ocean showers of the trip, which were very refreshing. Jack and Peyton kept doing backflips off the side of the boat. For dinner, we ate lentil soup with homemade bread. Finally, we went over some policies for this trip and how to perform night watches. Now we are getting ready for our first rotation of night watches and settling into bed.
See ya soon 🙂
