Location: Almerimar, Spain
Today, we arrived in Almerimar! My watch team (Dan, Cat, Mac, Talia, Grace C., Lillian, Boston, Luke, and Ben) were on the 8-12 watch, and it was just starting to get light out as we came on deck while watch team 1 finished dropping the staysails. We could see the shadow of the city and mountain tops peeking out from low-hanging clouds as we set up dock lines and fenders. The docking went seamlessly, even with a last-minute switch up from port to starboard side-to. After, there was a bit of time to relax before everyone gathered on deck to take halyards off and put sail covers on. For lunch, Elis and her sous chefs, Luke and Eduardo, made a pasta salad with a side of chicken. Then there was class in the salon in leadership, everyone learned about Alhambra from Grace C. and Grace N., and our gelato connoisseurs Ruby and Jesse tried to teach everyone about the local gelato spots, but there was some confusion between Granada (where we will be tomorrow), and Grenada (an island in the Caribbean), so their recommendation was a little too far away. After classes, there was free time ashore, during which some did laundry, some went on runs, and some scouted out the local CrossFit gyms (Emma). Watson visited a local nature preserve along the beach (pictured below) and highly recommends it as a nice place for a walk. Everyone was back onboard by 6 for dinner and squeeze, where we all answered what statistic from our lives we would want to know.
