Hello, residents of dry land!!
My day began at 12:00 AM when I was woken up for watch. The first four hours of my day were spent in darkness, with naught but the low whistle of the wind to keep me company (and also all 9 of the other members of my watch team, but theyre not important). After my watch, I slept until 10:30, so the details of the morning were lost to me or rather, they WERE lost to me until a kind and generous soul who was up on watch filled me in (thanks, Ruby). The 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM watch team got to double reef the mainsail!! How incredibly exciting. Ruby, Max, and Emma cooked us all a delicious lunch of breakfast wraps complete with scrambled eggs, bacon bits, cheese, onions, bell peppers, beans, and tortillas. To no fault of the galley team, the tortillas didnt quite hold up, so most of us ended up eating our wraps with a fork. After lunch, we all gathered in the salon for Leadership, except for Dan and Mac Ryan, who were both about 10 minutes late (but only because their dedication to Trashmastering knows no bounds). Luke, Chloe, and I did our leadership presentation on Being in Communities. With our combined brain power, we managed to pull off what was quite possibly the best presentation ever given in the history of this boat or maybe even in the history of the world. I would say about two-thirds of everyone on the boat actually paid attention and listened to us, which is definitely a Vela record. Right after us, Amy, Boston, and Grace N. did their almost-but-not-quite-as-amazing-as-ours presentation on Interacting in Teams and Groups. After that, we all had an hour during our Oceanography class to finish the Methods section of our research project. Eduardo, Grace N, Theo, and I managed to really put our heads together and only turn in our section 15 minutes later than we were supposed to (incredible, I know). We had free time for the rest of the afternoon, which I used to work on my marine ID logbooks.
While I was up on deck, working myself to the bone like the incredibly studious young woman I am (while Talia and Chloe lazed about beside me), we realized there were two birds on board!! The smaller one took up residence in Toms basil plant while the larger one flitted about the midship. Cat and Ruby tried to befriend the larger one by offering him some water. Upon seeing his rotund stature, Cat quite appropriately dubbed him Tubby. For dinner, we had Bork (Beef & Pork) Stew with mushrooms, carrots, onions, potatoes, green beans, and corn. For my squeeze question, I asked everyone what we should name the smaller bird, only to be informed that both birds had already flown off the ship and were almost definitely dead. RIP to two real chillers. Thats about all thats happened today!! Signing off.
P.S Hi Dad, I love you the most <3
