Location: Underway to Madeira

We started the day with a beautiful sunrise with pink clouds. The folks on watch team one had a Pitbull Dance Party to celebrate the sunrise. We also were placing bets on when the sun would actually rise. Some made bowls of boat meal, and everyone has a different configuration of how they like theirs. I prefer one scoop of brown sugar and two to three scoops of white sugar in my oatmeal. Others prefer peanut butter, bananas, nuts, and some even go wild and put cocoa powder in.

Watch team two doused the jib as well as the mainsail during their 08:00 to 12:00 watch this morning. They also raised the forward staysail in preparation for tonights increased wind. This afternoon we had marine biology class where we learned about marine worms, bryozoans, and mollusks, and we went over our International Crew exams in Seamanship class. During the watch before dinner, our wind speed started to build, and the sea state started to get increasingly larger and rougher. For dinner, we had honey mustard pulled pork along with roasted sweet potatoes and brussels sprouts, and delicious rolls. Tim also gave everyone another tether for tonight, so we can be doubly safe, as the wind speed is predicted to hit thirty knots sustained with gusts in the forties. We are hoping for lots of stars tonight, and we are feeling happy that this big swell is coming from behind us tonight.
