My morning started today with a slightly late, unintentional wakeup, followed by a very tired group of students. We turned it around real quick, though. Breakfast was breakfast burritos, and I can’t think of a better way to fuel for our morning of beach games. After the cleanup, we marched over, full of excitement, to the sand volleyball courts about 3 minutes from where Argo is docked. From there, the competition began. Aidan broke us all up into fair-ish teams. From there, two teams were playing a backyard football game, and the other two were playing beach volleyball. My team consisted of Sam, Chloe, Fish, Maria, and me. We were among the first teams playing football. The nostalgia of playing two-hand touch backyard football was crazy. It took me right back to my 3rd grade recess glory days. Our game unfortunately ended in a tie, and it was time to move on to volleyball. Both teams played hard; sadly, my team was defeated. No worries, just on to the next massive game of Infection. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it’s simple. The game is a variation of tag, where once tagged, you join the infected and try to tag everyone else. The last and final game that I played on the beach was another 2-hand touch football game. Only this game was four college-aged guys vs another four college-aged guys. You can kinda assume how the game turned out. Eventually, everyone turned into a Hall of Fame NFL star. A quick dip in the refreshing water, and we marched back to the boat for some lunch.
Just before we devoured lunch, the boat was freed from its dock and underway to Gibraltar. Lunch was a little strange, but it ended up really good. I’ve never had a charcuterie board lunch, and Im not sure the next time I will, but that might just be me. A quick refuel, and it was time to do some learning down below. First, Shane gave the second lecture on navigation, touching on differences between true north and magnetic north, the variations between the two, and how to mathematically find them. Next, it was Nacho’s oceanography class, where he gave a lecture regarding the transmission of heat throughout the ocean. Finally, I was able to have a little bit of free time before enjoying dinner. There is not much to do besides a quick shower and planning an early bedtime. That 3:30 AM wakeup is calling my name.
Mom, Dad, Chase, Rachel, Nolan, Brody, Ryder, still lots of love, see you all soon.
