Location: North Atlantic

After the rough seas of yesterday, today was a nice calm day. All the respective watch teams said hi to each other at lunch for tacos. We dont see much of each other these days except for in class or at mealtimes because of said watch schedule, so we all appreciate our shared time together all the more. As we were getting food, everyone noticed that there were birds flying around everywhere; there seemed to be a feeding frenzy right under us. Two tunas were spotted as they participated in the frenzy, and we were all hoping that one would take a bite of our tuna line that we have had off the back, but no luck. After lunch, we had a nav master class where we worked on our chart work and learned about running fixes, which are pretty cool. After that, we had our fire drill and got to take out the big fire hose that we have on the boat and spray that around (pictured below.) It was time to relax after that and enjoy the calm and beautiful day. Dinner was accompanied by a gorgeous sunset, as always. On a side note, I have noticed that even though we are sailing across the ocean with water on all sides, it still feels like the ocean state turns into the landmarks that you would usually associate with road trips. It becomes your bearings and the way in which you measure where you are. There were the places of glassy water that we went through, and there were the places where the seas were rough, and each of these seemed to be a different place in the ocean. Although logically, these conditions will change, and those parts of the ocean will be different than they were when you passed through them, your mind has a funny way of sorting the ocean into zones or places based on what it was like when you passed through it. I wonder if that makes any sense. I have an ending question for all the readers that you will have to ask your students when they get home: what is green and has wheels? Well, goodnight from somewhere out in the Atlantic to everyone back home; people have decided to make cookies down below, so the midnight snacks tonight should be good.
