It is day seven of our Sea|Mester experience, and what a blast we’re all having! One week down, 11 to go! After some much-needed shore time yesterday in Les Saintes, where we could all access the internet and catch up with our lives at home if only for a spell, today’s activities were primarily focused around scuba diving. After breakfast, the open water (beginner) divers did their first real dive, exploring a small reef south of our vessel SY Argo, and for a first experience, it was memorable, with hundreds of species of fish and thousands of organisms. After 30 minutes or so, they surfaced and returned to Argo, our temporary-permanent home. After relaxing and getting their tan on, already certified divers had their first crack at the Caribbean waters as well, exploring a wrecked ship that the reef has absorbed and coexisted with. After advanced divers returned, open water divers went on yet another dive, going 30 feet deep! Everyone had an amazing dive, even first mate Ian, who is in the process of getting his first dive certification. Still anchored in Les Saintes, part of the French territory, all staff and students alike are looking forward to a new day tomorrow, filled yet again with diving and memories!
