Ocean Star awoke to a peaceful morning after an early morning rain shower poured down the slopes of Mountain Point. After a delicious breakfast the crew geared up for a day packed full of diving. The open water class prepared for their first dives in open water. We jumped in Exy and Irving, our trusty dinghies and upon arrival at the moorings, the crew back-rolled into the inviting clear blue waters like pros. Well, maybe not pros just yet, but they are making progress. We had an amazing dive, with lots of colorful critters to captivate the eye- the fish identification skills learned from the previous nights class are already getting put to good use! The already certified divers also had a great dive- a highlight being the sighting of a nurse shark! After lunch the open water class was back in the water working on their skills and exploring another dive site at Mountain Point. The rest of the group joined up with the Lifeworks crew, a sister company to Seamester, for some turtle tagging. While the turtles eluded the Ocean Star crew, we did get the chance to participate in the tagging of a turtle that Lifeworks successfully captured and released, with the hopes of gathering valuable data that can help protect these majestic creatures. Back on board the open water class finished their day of diving with great success- 100% passed the Final Exam for Open Water- just two more dives left before it’s official! We’re finishing the day off with dinner and a sailing class and looking forward to moving on to Vixen Point tomorrow!
