Today was an eventful day on Ocean Star. Last night was a fun sign-out night playing trivia. My team secured the win, and we got to take a fun dip in the water as part of the bonus round. This morning I did wake-ups and went up on deck to brush my teeth and hang out for a little while before breakfast. As I was brushing my teeth, I saw Steph, Amanda, and Kacy getting into their dive gear. I thought they were going on a dive for Kacy’s divemaster, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. My peaceful morning was abruptly shortened as panic broke out amongst Kacy, Steph, and Amanda.

All of a sudden, at 7:05 am, it was time for a rescue scenario, and I had to hustle below deck and to the forecastle to make sure everyone was up and ready to come up on deck to do our scenario. People were quite startled, as was I. We then got into the water and started doing our jobs to go and rescue a panicked diver, an unconscious breathing diver, and an unresponsive non, breathing diver. After completing our rescue scenario, we had breakfast and started our day. We then had oceanography after cleanup, and we sat through two lectures before we had some free time before lunch. We then had lunch, and after cleaning up, we had time to continue working on our group research projects for oceanography. My group and I finished around four or so and had some time before dinner to hang out. Until once again, at five, we all were brought back on deck for another surprise rescue scenario. We were met with a rapid Smash who had a dive knife that needed to be taken care of immediately. Supposedly a turtle attack happened, and she retrieved this knife from Steph before she went unconscious from the vicious turtle attack. This time there were missing divers, divers unconscious at the bottom of the ocean, and an unconscious diver at the surface. The whole group participated in that scenario, yet we did not pass this scenario. So directly after, we did another scenario. This time our fins and gear were strewn around the boat in mysterious places, and we were in a frenzy searching for gear. We then did the scenario efficiently and got certified as rescue divers. We then had another signature Drew dinner of veg roast with Yorkshire puddings which were great once again. We’re now cleaning up for the night and have nothing planned for this evening. After an eventful day of rescue diving scenarios and becoming certified, we now have some time to rest. It was a fun day, and I’m excited we got certified after grinding from open water certification all the way to rescue. Tomorrow we are on our way to Saba. It should be a 6-hour passage before we arrive, and I’m excited to go on passage once again to see where our adventure continues.

P.S Hi, mom and dad, so far, the trip has been a great time, and we have learned and done so much in the previous 30 days. I love and miss you both and can’t wait to show you all the pictures and tell you all about the trip. Love Evan
