Location: Statia
Today was a day! We woke up in Statia after a 6-hour passage from St. Barths. With little sleep under our belt, it did not stop us from doing everything on this island in 10 hours. Starting with breakfast, we all took a minute to wake up before gathering for some classic cereal to hear the plan for the day. We didnt know if we could still scuba dive today with the change in plans with the storm, but Allie is the best and made it happen. We split into two groups again, one diving in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Luckily, I was in the afternoon group with Griff and Paige, so I had all morning to hike up the crater on Statia with our group. If you dont know about this thing called the Bends, let me tell you – after scuba diving, you get some nitrogen bubbles in your blood so that you cant exceed high altitudes immediately afterward, BUT you can go to high altitudes before scuba diving. Basically, the afternoon divers could hike, but the morning divers had to listen to the Bends gods. We hiked up the crater for about three-ish hours, which was amazing, but genuinely, I have never sweat so much in my life. After getting to the top, the way down took 1/3 of the time, and we got some lunch right by the dive shop. Some chicken skewers and burgers were devoured in seconds.
Then the diving began! We had two tank dives, and since we are working on getting our advanced Open water, we did a fish ID dive and then a wreck dive. Both were awesome, but my favorite part was going underwater with a clipboard of different fish and writing down with Paige every fish that we saw.
After diving, we were so sleepy and happily exhausted that we had some chili for dinner on the boat before another storm decided to join in a couple of days as well! There is a little change of plans again, but we are sailing tonight to Antigua. Instead, it is St. Kits, and we should get there tomorrow afternoon. We are all rolling with it, listening to music and making brownies before we set out for 15ish hours. We came and conquered Satia!!
