Location: Terre de Haut, Les Saintes, Guadeloupe

Today we woke up bright and early to prepare for our first day underway. First, we ran through a long list of duties at the dock, preparing the deck, chart house, galley, and our bunks. We then set sail, and in the open water, we learned how to properly raise the sails as a team. On the water, we practiced emergency fire routines and were broken into our boat watch teams. Each team spent two hours controlling the boat, which included steering the helm, bow watch, and boat checks. As the sun went down, we had our first night-sail and got an incredible view of the starry night sky. Some of us even saw our very first shooting stars. After sailing past Guadeloupe, we arrived at our destination of Les Saintes and anchored for the night!
