Hello people!

Today, everyone woke up in the middle of the night to do our first rounds of night watch. Team 2 had to get up at midnight to do the 12-4 am shift, which Zac said would be the best one. When I woke up later today at 12 in the afternoon, I went upstairs on deck to see that Payton had caught a small mahi-mahi with the hand line. He gave it a nice kiss before releasing it back into the ocean, since it was too small to eat. Lunch was quinoa salad and feta cheese, prepared by our chefs Charlie, Henry, and Mina. After lunch, we went into our first classes, leadership and seamanship. Thankfully, most people are now acclimated to the ship’s rocking, so nobody threw up in the salon. For leadership class, we dove into reflecting on our childhood and the first seven years of our lives, discussing our siblings, parents, and what we did as kids. We then split into groups of 2/3 to start working on a presentation on different facets of leadership. Henry, Greyson, and I chose to do our presentation on relational leadership. In Seamanship class, led by Mario Kart champion Shane, we broke out the tools needed for plotting courses on charts. Dylan, Lizzie, and Jack also had previous experience with sailing, which made the class a breeze for them. Shane also gave us our first out-of-class work, which was pretty easy to complete. While we were doing our classes, the fisherman’s sail was raised, making Argo the fastest she has ever been with all 6 sails up. Dylan, Greyson, and Emma taught Maya how to play 52-card pickup after classes were over, and we were working on our homework. Macie held a speed of 9 knots, which is the new record for the trip. Hays, Emily, and Rooke got a quick nap before we ate some chicken fajitas and leftovers for dinner, which were all great. While we were eating, there was a sunspot in the sky, which was pretty cool.

(Payton says he is definitely catching a fish tomorrow to cook and eat.)
