My day started at 8:00 pm last night, when watch team 2 was called up from our bunks to begin our night watch. I was just a little bit late to watch because my bed was holding me back with the rocking of the waves, but I arrived just a few minutes before 8 pm. Some time went by, and as Alex and I completed our boat check, we were called to the rest of our watch group at the Fisherman Sail, and we began to hand pull in the sail. The sail was flapping in the wind. Avery and Lizzy shifted all of their body weight backwards, attempting to pull in the sail. Logan and Sadie were in the back, watching their crew face the unforgiving wind. Later in the night, we pulled in the Flying Jib; this excursion was slightly less dramatic, but still left us soaking wet, to say the least. As we trudged through the shift in wet weather gear, we looked forward to the warm beds. At 12 am, we went to bed, leaving watch team 3 in charge. Later, watch team 2 was woken up again at 8 am for our morning shift. Jack, Lana, and Zac eagerly cleaned the sargassum and cornflake cereal-filled deck: the aftermath of last night’s wind. At 12 pm, Sadie, LouLou, Greyson, Emma, and Logan cheffed up a storm in the galley. The boat indulged in a lunch of bagel sandwiches and a plethora of leftovers.

After cleaning up a mess from lunch, everyone was called down to attend our leadership and seamanship courses. Although it got pretty stuffy down in the salon, Andrew managed to stay cool by staying in the line of breeze from the hatch. During our seamanship course, Alexis and Rooke enjoyed charting waypoints and learning how to master the compass. After completing our classes, many of us stayed down below while Dylan, Payton, and Brady fished off the stern of the boat. Down below in the salon, as I was ordering Henry (its my job) to 40/40 everything, a plotter fell off the table and stabbed my foot while Henry and Macie continued to munch on chocolate chip cookies and Greyson was eating digestives (chocolate cookie things that do NOT help with digestion) with his tea. After enjoying our free time, Ella, Lanie, Maya, and Mimi enjoyed talking on the benches on deck with beautiful views of the flat water around us. For dinner, head chef Sadie did an amazing job once again with some questionably red hot dogs and yummy mashed potatoes.
