Location: Gibraltar, UK

Greetings from Gibraltar!!!

We arrived in Gibraltar this morning! Luckily for me, we didn’t arrive until around 11 am, so I got to sleep after my night watch. We thought we would be arriving a bit earlier, so, unfortunately, for watch group 1, there was an unexpected 8 am watch. We docked and refueled and then moved to a nice marina that all of us are really enjoying. Once we settled in at our new docking location, we broke into classes. We started with our first seamanship test, and (i think) it went pretty well!! Definitely a bit better than our recent oceanography quizzes, which the majority of us failed (OOPS).

After classes, we got a pleasant surprise and were informed that we would be able to have dinner on shore after a mini boat appreciation. I was more excited about the boat appreciation, which meant that we would all be getting clean sheets. While onshore, a big group of us headed off to get dinner together. There was a long debate about whether to get fish and chips or pizza, and we even tried to split up into our respective food preferences, but eventually, everyone got so impatient that we just picked the only restaurant in eyesight. This restaurant just happened to have fish and chips, so most of us were happy.

On our way back to the boat, we walked through the park and had an impromptu dance party. It was a very fitting end to the day and much needed. We had a good 30 minutes of bliss before realizing we had a marine biology exam tomorrow that none of us had started studying for. There is currently a heated debate going on in the salon about whether Liz could fight an alligator, so I have to go! That’s all for today!

Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa, I love you and miss you! Talk soon! Oh, and Nate.
