In some ways, the last week has been a change of pace. Normally on Seamester, we are always looking to the next destination. There is always an urgency to keep going and push ourselves across an ocean or explore a new island. Being forced to stop and take stock gives us a different perspective on the world. There is more time to spend with those people who will soon be leaving us, to be silly and play pranks, to explore the anchorage in dinghies, boom swing.
We run our rescue drills to the slight alarm of the boats anchored near us. We bake muffins and try to make our final meals the best we have done yet. We write cards to each other and sit on anchor watch, reminiscing about what we have done and how far we have come. The last week has been so challenging, but I couldn’t be more proud of the group we have become.
