Today we started the day with the usual 7.00 am wake-ups, with the slight twist of the entire boat surprising Elling by singing Happy Birthday to get him out of bed.
We then ate a fantastic butternut squash and zucchini frittata courtesy of Amanda before getting ready to go surfing.
When we got to the dream surf spot, we were met by the local legend David and his crew of surf instructors. We got a quick lesson from the guys, along with a chat about reef safety before going in the water. As most of the students were beginners, it was great to see them progressing and learning. By the end, everyone was shredding some gnarly barrels. To complete the ultimate French surfing experience, we then ate brie and fresh baguettes on the beach. ( surf crew only)
After returning to the boat, we had a few hours of carb coma time, then prepared for the afternoon Navmaster Class. Today was the exciting lesson on how to fix the boat’s position precisely using only a compass, chart, and visual landmarks. I really enjoyed teaching this class and was really grateful for the students staying engaged despite the physically demanding morning.
For dinner, we ate cheesy polenta and birthday cake before going out on a surprise sign-out night, where everyone could have a beer to celebrate Elling’s birthday.
