Ladies and gentlemen, please put your tray tables up and keep your seat in the upright position. Welcome to your final destination of Antigua! We made it to the beautiful country of Antigua yesterday, and she is stunning. She greeted us with stunning green mountains and bright blue waters that instantly made us feel at home. We started off our first full day in Antigua with a delicious breakfast and then made our way over to the Ocean Star for a fun-filled morning. A group of our team (Jenna, Griffin, and Paige) went diving and officially finished their last dive to become Advanced Open Water divers. Kat finished her last dive to finish her Open Water certification! The rest of our group spent time playing on a rope swing attached to the Ocean Star and had a blast attempting and failing at doing flips. Unlike the athletes at the 2024 Olympics, we are not ready to compete for our country in diving.
We then had an eventful start to our afternoon as we were shuttling from the Ocean Star to the Different Drummer when our dingy’s engine died. The four of us had a great time paddling, swimming, and pulling the dingy in a heroic attempt to reach the Different Drummer by our own devices. We did not succeed. We were saved by our wonderful crew member Ben when we towed our boat back to the Different Drummer, where we had a delicious lunch waiting for us before embarking on a short 3-hour passage to a dock where we would stay for the next couple of days. After a quick class underway, we arrived at the dock and started to get settled.
Our knowledgeable crew got our boat docked, and we started preparing a delicious dinner of tacos, which we all agreed was the best dinner yet! After dinner, a bunch of our team did an emergency first responder course and learned how to do the very important skill of CPR on our friendly CPR dummy Can’t Breathy Stevie. Stevie was a champ and was saved multiple times throughout the night. Overall, we had a fantastic day and can’t wait to see what else Antigua has in store for us!
