This morning started with an early wake-up, followed by breakfast. Today was the day of the big hike to the boiling lake that the staff had been talking about for days. After Captain Kevin’s warnings about the tough hike ahead, we hopped in two vans with bumpin’ tunes and drove to the start of the trail. Ready with peanut butter and jelly in our backpacks and optimistic thoughts, we started off. The day was filled with many, many uphill steps, a snack of hard-boiled eggs cooked in a river, some natural sulfur face masks, a soak in a sulfur hot spring, lunch by the only boiling lake in the world, and a long trek back. After hiking about 14 miles with tons of steps up and down, we were truly exhausted. We took an all-natural ice bath in the cool spring and went on our way back to the boat. After our daily ocean shower, we got ready for dinner out and had a relaxing evening. Overall, a very tiring but rewarding day.
