Location: Mallorca

Hello all. Im Ben, one of the Marine Science and Dive Instructors on board Vela. Today, the students got to do their own thing on shore, so after an amazing dinner of Farinata made by Smash, I ran around finding out how everyone spent their time in Majorca.

First up, weve got Elis, Eliza, Chloe, and Lillian, who kicked off their shore time with an American-style breakfast. Apparently, theyve been missing the eggs and pancakes of home and needed some culinary nostalgia. They then walked around town, went shopping, and joined the rest of the group for a beach day.

Next up, we have Ruby (ITs HER BIRTHDAY TODAY), Talia, Grace N, Amy, Audrey, Theo, Brendan, and Watson, who spent their day hiking through the local hills before finding a small cove to swim in. While eating a cupcake in this cove, the local goats became a little too interested, causing the group to retreat from the hungry livestock. Watson, Audrey, and Brendan took their excursion even further by adding some rock climbing to the route. Ive been assured that it was equal parts thrilling and safe.
Dan also chose to hike during the morning. However, he opted to tackle a local peak, which he summited in impressive time. He then headed to the beach to join the others.

A little closer to sea level Max and Boston walked around town, trying the local food, relaxing with a massage, and in general living the chilled life. Liam also chilled around town, shopping in the local shops and apparently finding the best pizza restaurant this side of the Med. Luke, Cat, Jesse and Grace C also explored the town, each finding various different awesome foods to try and fancy things to buy before heading to the beach.

Offshore, Mac hired some gear and went windsurfing. There are no witnesses to his skills so I can only assume that he was awesome and sponsorship deals will be flooding in shortly. He then headed to the fishing gear shop with James, Lukas and our resident fishing-pro Edwardo. After purchasing what will hopefully be some very successful lures, hooks, and lines, they also headed to the beach.

At some point in the day the entire group all made it to the beach to swim, sun bath and receive a world class lesson in the game of rugby from Luke. Theyre all now back on board, tired, happy and getting stuck into a Seamanship class being taught by Staff-Mac and Claire.

Till next time,

All the best from everyone here on Vela!
