Location: En Route to Devils Island
Hello, friends and family of Argo’s crew,
I hope all is well where you are. Today was a great first full day of passage. My morning started off with the 8 am-12 pm work watch with my new watch team! We got reassigned new teams yesterday, and it has been exciting getting into a different routine since. Our time on deck this morning consisted of raising the two stay-sails and later putting up the F-Jib. It was my first time semi-leading a sail raise. Super fun. I think we (Zac, Maddy, Kiki, and I) will be a good group. Although I will miss Kackie and her awesome lore, I am excited to get to know Shane and Meg better as my new watch leaders. They are so good at teaching me new things! After the sailhandling, we gave our dinghies a spa day and spent the rest of watch chatting. Storytime on watch is the best.
Then, after we had a delish lunch with our head chef, Eli, we headed down for oceanography and seamanship. In oceanography, we learned about waves and swells and all the science behind them. It is super cool learning about the currents and waves we are currently sailing with (pun intended). In Seamanship, we continued the NavMaster saga. We learned a running fix today, which helps you pinpoint your direction off of a compass bearing. Our navigations were interrupted when those on deck spotted a pod of spinner dolphins. They swam up close, and we got to see some majestic out-of-the-water spins. It was a beautiful sight to see! We ended today with a nice yummy dinner and squeeze, which I asked: if you could combine two animals, which two would it be, and what would you name them? Mine was an orca and a butterfly and I would call it the borca. It feels good to get back into the swing of passage. Write to you in another 20 days,
Kara
