Location: Taiohae, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas, French Polynesia
After 17 and a half days of sailing we have finally reached the Marquesas. We anchored around 8 o’clock this morning and by 8:45 nearly everyone was in the water! After a brief swim we started a rather large BA. People we scrubbing the hull, scraping barnacles, rust busting, cleaning the saloon and fridges, deck washing, flaking sails, putting up tarps, polishing, waxing, cleaning, organizing bunks, and making Argo look beautiful! After a long day of cleaning we had some time to ourselves. Some people studied for the PSCT exam tomorrow, some people were swimming, and others found a quiet spot to read. We had the squeeze question and dinner time as usual. After dinner we had the destination presentation for the Marquesas. We all settled in for a movie night in the saloon afterwards. The staff surprised us with ice cream, soda and popcorn. What a great way to end an even greater day. We have sailed over 5000 nautical miles and passed through the farthest point you can be away from land in the world. We are all so excited to begin exploring this amazing island and it all starts tomorrow!
