Location: Saline Bay, Mayreau
Hello all! Today was a very eventful day. It started off a little bit calm, with a delicious pumpkin bread breakfast followed by a Marine Biology class. Sammy then delivered a great literature review presentation about oil spills, and everyone was in good spirits going into the next activity. That being a recreation of a scene from the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie as part of our leadership class. In Tobago Cays, there is one island that was used in the filming of the movie. If anyone reading this is an expert in the franchise, it is the scene where Captain Barbossa forces Elizabeth and Jack Sparrow to walk the plank and take refuge on an uninhabited island. We all had our roles and dressed accordingly, and got off to a flying start in the filming process before we were rudely interrupted by some people thinking we were going to try and drop anchor. Because of this, we had to relocate before we finished filming. We decided it was best to just make it to Mayreau and wrap up there. After, we had some lunch and got to work on some boat appreciation. For those who don’t know, boat appreciation is an intensive deep clean of Ocean Star where everyone gets roles and is responsible for their own personal areas as well. Today’s boat appreciation took up the majority of the afternoon, but it was so worth it because Ocean Star looks and feels much cleaner than before. I personally had a great time with Evan and Alev scrubbing the outside of the boat in one of the dinghies. Although it was a little difficult keeping steady while also trying to scrub the entire hull, it ended up being a great time for all of us. To cap it off, we had a delicious spaghetti dinner as the sun set on our first night in Mayreau!
