Location: Prince Rupert Bay, Dominica

Rusted Root’s ‘Send Me on My Way’ played through the saloon’s speakers to wake up the crew at 7 am sharp… just in time for our definitely, without a doubt on time breakfast at 8:30. While our amazing chefs may have been delayed, our crepe breakfast with Nutella, peanut butter, and berries was the perfect way to start the day. After a quick clean-up, we piled into the saloon for a Leadership class, where Rae led us through her presentation with a riveting game of true/false. We had a short intermission to say goodbye to our good friend Eli as he moves on to new adventures. After class, we continued our passage prep from the day before, getting ready for our sail to Dominica!!!! Our chefs worked away in the galley to bring up a delicious meal of meatballs (and eggplant scramble for the vegetarians). After lunch, we had a combo clean-up/weighing anchor to begin our journey as quickly as possible. Once the anchors were up, Les Saints gave us a farewell gift of two dolphins swimming just off our bow! We began to raise the sails and managed to force the foresail all the way up… before Hedrick and Ash collectively decided that we really didn’t put it on right, and it shouldn’t be up. Thus began the very strenuous process of trying to haul the sail back down, with little success. Luckily, the very brave (and cool) Sam donned the harness and was hoisted up the foremast in order to shimmy things lose. After that very slight hiccup, it was smooth sailing to Dominica. Mackenzie led us at the helm, and we made good time as the crewmates chatted, napped, and had a little photoshoot (thanks to Rae’s camera for the high qual pics).

The highlight of the day was definitely seeing a (sperm?) whale breach near us while underway. Two marine mammals in one day!!! Crazy!! Dinner was served as we pulled into a sheltered bay, and the chicken pot pie (minus the chicken and the pie… oops) was devoured with a gorgeous sunset as our background. We lowered the sails, dropped the anchors, and started on some clean-up. Now people are getting ready for their evenings (I hear that a showing of Pirates of the Caribbean might be happening??) as our ever-dedicated chefs Kelly and Savannah work to make an apple pie with the pie crust not used in our chicken pot pie (minus the chicken and the pot). Today was peaceful and beautiful, and I can’t wait to jump in the water tomorrow morning and check out our new anchorage.

And they all lived happily ever after (from Hedrick) and see ya suckers (from Isaac),
