Location: Essaouira, Morocco
My day started when a soaking wet Teo woke up my watch team around 11:30, claiming it was pouring rain and that we all needed to put on our full foulies. Naturally, we all believed him. We were quite surprised when we came up on deck to absolutely zero rain. Watch team 3 had fallen victim to another watch team 2 prank, who thought it would be funny to make us all think it was raining by spraying Teo with the hose before having him wake us up. Watch team 2 is going to have to watch their backs on the next passage because we are not going to hold back. The rest of our 4 hours of watch was filled with the usual ramen, boat checks, and more ramen. Nacho made his world-famous cement, an Argo classic. We then all headed to bed, excited to arrive in Morocco in the morning. Most everyone, expect watch team 2 (seems like karma to me), got to sleep until 11:30, which provided us a much needed break after the 3 day passage. The waves at this anchorage are crazy, though. It still feels like we are underway. For lunch, Amelia, Emily, and Liv made some delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and soup. After the cleanup, we all had marine biology class, where we learned about coral reefs, and then had seamanship, where we continued learning navigation. After classes, Bryson, Hailey, Cameron, Teo, Alexa, Sam, and I attempted the nav master homework, which meant spending about an hour poring over the charts trying to find the right points and lights. Even one little mistake can change your final answer by a ton. My brain was so fried that I had a bit more trouble doing basic addition than I would like to admit. We all then took freezing cold ocean showers together, and as Cameron and Teo put it, the water felt like an ice bath. We then had an amazing dinner of spaghetti and garlic naan. Shout out to Maria for making the best naan of the trip so far! We’re all super excited to be in Morocco, and we’re looking forward to all the cool things we’ll get to do while we’re here!
