Location: Underway to Almerimar

Good morning, Vela! Today started out with wake-ups by Your Truly and THE morning song Send Me on My Way. Everyone shuffled upstairs for a breakfast of yogurt and granola before I shared the schedule for the day. The sun rose at 8 am (a late start if you ask me) and offered us the most beautiful sunrise. After clean up, I was honored to be the victim of the surprise man overboard drill. Each watch team got into their groups and was guided by the staff on what to do. After we practiced saving a conscious victim, our honorable rescue swimmer, Ben, jumped in the water to practice rescuing an unconscious victim.

After my lovely morning swim, we gathered in the cockpit and got to work raising the sails, AND THEN WE WERE OFF TO ALMERIMAR! We waved goodbye to Mallorca, and a dolphin bid us a fair well as it swam next to our boat, surfacing to say goodbye. This next passage will be about three days in total; we hope to arrive on Tuesday morning. For lunch, our head chef, Ben, and our sous chefs, Amy and Watson, cooked us up some yummy nacho bowls. We chowed and did our due diligence cleaning Vela after a messy meal. Through the afternoon, we spent time getting some school work done and working on our marine biology log books. Many of us worked on deck, enjoying the sun and smooth sailing. Later, we gathered in the salon to finish the movie Maiden for leadership class. It was an incredibly inspiring movie about the first all-girls sailing team that competed in the Whitbread Around the World race and made history. I would highly recommend watching! Our next class was oceanography with Michelle, and we learned more about what our ocean water is made of. After classes, watch teams were back on deck, starting with my group, watch team one. We ate a fantastic dinner of chicken nuggets and rice and cleaned up once again. After dinner, I went straight to bed around 8 pm to prep for my 12 am-4 am watch. It was another wonderful day here on Vela, and we all send love to the families and friends back home!

Shout out to my Mama, Grandparents, family, and Brock!
Missing you dearly!
