HAPPY DAY 13 ON VELA VELA VELA
Today started with cuddles, extra folded croissants, a few amazing cold shore showers, updates on the ROCO 600, and Sydney wiping out down the chart house stairs. I was given the passage-prep checklist consisting of engine checks, 40/40s, lines, sails, and freezer organization. I quickly assigned groups for tasks around the boat as everyone finished up their morning jobs. I was told that IF we got our passage-prep done by 11:30 am, we could have some shore time before covid tests and departure. As we know, the Vela crew loves a challenge. After mast climbing, Sharp’s battle with the anchor locker, and many other BA (boat appreciation) jobs, team Vela finished prep by 9:45 – the world record for passage-prep on a SeaMester vessel. While sweating and grabbing backpacks for shore time, frozen homemade juices were brought to the dock which “SLAPPED.” We were then all shuttled to shore for Lomax and Nick to restock their personal chip pantries and for others to buy some souvenirs and french fries. After laughs, dress scams, and bonding time onshore, we all headed to get covid tested as our last item on the checklist before departing for Guadeloupe.
We got back home and had some more shore showers. Study time and calls home before watch lists were posted!!! We learned how to hoist the sails and check the engine and bilges while underway. Then, with much suspense, Tom and Callum arrived back at the boat with news… ALL NEGATIVEEE! After cheers, high fives, Ryan’s yummy tacos, and the Squeeze circle, Cap’n Tom announced that instead of leaving in the dark, we would set sail for the first time at sunrise tomorrow morning. YAY! We cannot wait for sweatpants and coffee as we sail away bright and early:) Overall, just another beautiful day on Vela Vela Vela.
Mom, Dad, Benny, and the puppies, I miss you guys so much but feel SO incredibly happy and lucky to be here with the most amazing people ever.
