Location: Underway to Bonaire

Hi Blog! My day started at 12 am to watch till 4. I was so excited to helm for the first time at night and use the bright stars as guiding points. The moon rose at around 1:00 am, and as it was rising above the horizon, it had a bright orange hue to it, which was so cool! We even saw the Southern Cross constellation. Watch team 1 said they saw a gorgeous sunrise. I started my day crying with Colbie while helping her cut onions for her fried rice with Captain Nick being a great sous chef and cooking the rice.
Right before lunch, it was time for all hands on deck to help get all the sails up! We finally turned the motor off and have been able to enjoy the sound of the wind and water. Gavi and I both got to go out to the bow sprit to untie the jib sheets (don’t worry, we were both double teathered). Sometime between getting the sails set up, Will was trying to fix Martin’s PFD when all of a sudden the canister went off, and Martin’s PFD inflated!!! They both had to wear the type 1 pfds (bright orange) for the rest of the day while Martin’s got fixed.
Cason and Jonas spent most of the morning trying to catch fish. The tally of fish caught is -1 and 0. Hopefully, they’ll catch a fish in the next 75 days.
After cleaning up lunch, we had oceanography class with Dr. Nacho, who went through the steps to write a scientific paper for a later literature review assignment. After our 15-minute break, Aidan came into the salon to teach his leadership class while also being in charge of making naan for dinner. As a group, we made a social contract of things that we want to stick to throughout the voyage. After class, Emma, Stella, and I wanted to practice going through all the lines on the boat (for our next Seamanship test), but kept getting confused. Thankfully, Aidan took time out of his break to go through and explain every line and how to identify them. He definitely was the most patient person on the boat today. Now, everyone is getting ready to either go to sleep before their watch or prepare for their night watch. All in all, today was a really nice day sailing to Bonaire on Argo!!
