Location: Sardinia
I would say that the day started by emerging from below deck to see a beautiful view of the Sardinian shore; I really wish I could, but in reality, the day started when the clock struck midnight, and watch groups took their first shifts. We stayed up in groups through the night for the first time to ensure our safe passage from mainland Italy to Sardinia. WE were all excited at the thought of encountering passing ships and rough seas during the night, but in reality, all we found were wet pants and shivering students who sat through watch shifts in the rain and cold. Despite these conditions the first watch was super fun, we had a lot of good chatting time and got to steer the boat at the helm for the first time. My shift was over at 2 am, so I went to sleep then, but the next shift dropped our anchors offshore of Sardinia early in the morning. Everyone was tired when they woke up but had to fuel up for the SWIM TEST!!!!! It was our first time in the water since setting foot on Vela, and everyone enthusiastically jumped in the water. We thought it would be freezing because it was raining, but the water was surprisingly nice. We did some laps around the boat and tread water for 10 minutes. We sang some Ave Maria to pass the time. We all passed (me personally, barely (drank lots of saltwater))!!! Later in the day, we split into groups as the first of the beginner divers, and the experienced divers went into the water with their gear while the other beginner divers took the final PADI exam. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out on the deck, reading and talking and laying in the sun, which finally came out! For dinner Smash made some great pasta, and James debuted his bread rolls, they were soooo good. Now we’re gonna have a talk in the galley before having some free time until beda FULL NIGHT OF SLEEEEEEEEEEEP.
