Location: English Harbour, Antigua
I had to be woken up today by the chef to wake up everyone else. Sam came by my bunk at 7:10, and he said, “Ian, come on, you have to wake everyone up. You’re skipper today.” I proceeded to scramble out of my bunk and rush to get everyone up in time for breakfast. Thankfully everyone got up on the first try. We all had some toast and cereal below in the salon since the rain was coming down pretty hard.
After clean-up, we all went to Copper & Lumber to start our Navigation class. We spent about a few hours learning about estimated arrival and how drift affects destination. It was nice sitting in the restaurant learning about this concept. Once we finished, we made our way back to the ship to sit for lunch. While lunch was being prepped and had the final touches put together, I had a little war against the flies that decided to board us. Everyone had to move around me to make sure that I had enough room to swat at the little trespassers.
Once lunch was finished, we all had the rest of the day to ourselves. We were all allowed some free time onshore in the dock area we’re settled in. Everyone just broke up into either pair, or they went off on their own and just had a day where they could just relax and catch up on what they hadn’t done yet. Or some just wandered around and explored a little bit for their last day by going a little further into town.
Everyone came back to the ship after showers and picking up laundry at about 5:00. We all scattered around the ship, either relaxing or helping prep for dinner, which was so good. The Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti was fantastic. And then we had oceanography for our last bit of work for the day. We set sail for Green Island tomorrow and then St Barthelemy in the next couple of days.
