Location: Colon, Panama
Today was one of those simple days that you don’t realize you need until you have it.
We had class this morning, which felt pretty surreal, knowing that tomorrow we’ll be transiting the Panama Canal, something people literally cross the world to see. It’s wild to think we’re about to sail through one of the most important engineering feats ever built.
The rest of the day was chill. We went ashore, did laundry, which somehow feels like a luxury now, grabbed some food, and just slowed down for a bit. A small group of us also went on an informational hike through the jungle, where we learned about the local plants and wildlife. It was hot and humid, but getting to explore that side of Panama made the day feel even more meaningful.
After being in constant motion, sailing and diving, it felt good to just exist without a schedule for a few hours.
There’s a calm before the storm energy on the boat tonight. Everyone’s excited. Tomorrow afternoon, we’ll go through the locks, and I know it’s going to be one of those moments I’ll remember forever.
Grateful for the slow days, especially before a big one like tomorrow.
