Location: Underway to Christmas Island
We are officially on our way to Christmas Island! After pulling off of the dock in Bali yesterday, we had a little bit of a rough start, but we are all begging to settle into being on passage and happy to be reunited with our watch teams. Watch team two spent the morning 8-12 shift watching out for Argo as well as getting to watch a rather impressive sunrise. Soon after sunrise, the sun was in full force, and watch team two lathered up in sunscreen and took to some creative methods to keep out of the sun, including the funky blue parasol bow watch utilized to keep from getting roasted. After a delicious lunch, we gathered in the salon for a Leadership class today. We focused on different types of leadership and journaled about what type of leader you see yourself as. We were then split into groups and given student leaders who were expected to portray a certain type of leadership. Next, we were given our new prized possession, our baby egg. Each group was given one egg and told they must come up with a structure made up of duct tape and wooden skewers to protect their baby egg when it would be dropped onto the floor to see if it would survive in completion with the other groups eggs. We had to work together in a small time frame, and we lead by our various leaders in either an autocratic style or laissez-faire. After we pushed our baby egg caskets/ protections to the test, we discussed how we thought our group leaders had reacted to the situation. It was a super fun and cool way to work in groups together as well as learn about our course topics in a very hands-on way. After one more class that afternoon, we all showered and got ready for a fabulous dinner of mac and cheese and pork, as well as toasty tofu for our vegetarian friends. After dinner, I finally got to ask my squeeze question, What is something you have achieved or overcome in the past five years? The Squeeze is a practice we do every night after dinner. We all hold hands in a circle and answer a question from that days skipper, as well as share our appreciation for the last 24 hours. When you are finished talking, you squeeze the person had next to you to signal it is their turn to share. To end a squeeze, you can do anything from a squeeze clap to a group Macarena dance I, as skipper, chose to do tonight. After a good couple of rounds through, we decided we better stop dancing and get to clean up.
All in all, it was another amazing day on Argo, and we all cant wait to see what tomorrow brings. But right now, Ive got to get back to watch. See you guys tomorrow!
