As we are settling back into passage life we are finding new things to entertain ourselves each day. For some, it could be the age-old question of “When is Meg going to stop wearing full foulies to watch.” (For those wondering, it was only 2 nights ago). For others, it’s learning how to whip lines on the 8-12 or finding new constellations in the starts. For watch team 2, we spent our 12-4 last night enjoying our first popcorn watch of the program, which was accompanied by our first full night of stars. We found the Big Dipper, the Southern Cross, the Canis Major, and even our sister ships’ constellation Vela.

After our 4 hours of watch passed, we handed the boat over to watch team 3, where they chose to pass the time, giving Benny his first of two haircuts for the day. Though I was not awake for his first haircut, it has been reported that Benny may be one of the few who can pull off a bowl cut. On the handover from watch team 3 to watch team 1, the crew was greeted with a pod of dolphins swimming alongside Vela. Watch team 3 spend the morning making soft shackles and a new mat to go under our main companionway. The end of the 8-12 watch resulted in Benny’s second haircut from Eli, who kindly helped fix his bowl cut.

As everyone awoke for lunch, we all met in the cockpit to enjoy a delicious chicken and rice bowl cooked up by Kara and her sous chefs, Darien and Eli. After lunch, it was time for leadership and marine biology. Dairen taught a lesson in leadership on self-awareness and leaders. In Marine Bio, Ben discussed sessile marine creatures like the sea cucumber. After classes, Calum taught the crew how to make soft shackles, which filled the rest of the afternoon until Kara sent up my favorite meal, chili, and cornbread. To end the night, we found out which reality TV show everyone would want to be on and if they would win. We have many survivor contestants on board, and they all think they can win, so we may need to put this to the test.
