Location: Antigua
Today we went to Stingray City. For those of us who don’t know what it is, it’s a place in the middle of the water that we had to get to by water taxi. There are two floating docks and an area marked off by buoys. The stingrays can hear the boats coming, and they move to the roped-off area because they know it’s about to be feeding time. Some of us, like Amanda, Dani, or Whitney, have done this before and felt very comfortable feeding and holding the stingrays. For the rest of us, it took some time to get used to it, but once past the initial contact phase, we had a good time. The stingrays were very gentle creatures and very social. Unlike the goats we see in the mountains in the morning that want nothing to do with us, they had no problem swimming between your legs or being held. After we enjoyed a nice car ride back to Oceanstar, the scenery was nice, considering that it poured this morning. We enjoyed a lovely Thai dinner prepared by Amanda, Jack, and Chip. The plans for the rest of the night are to have an advanced dive lecture and then hopefully watch Pirates of the Caribbean. Today was a good day, even though I didn’t make any new goat friends or find a gym.
