Location: Gustavia, St Barth's
After exploring the classically laid-back islands of the Caribbean, it is weird to be in a city with fancy restaurants and designer shopping. After an early breakfast and a dinghy ride to shore, we excitedly made our way to the local creperie for some coffee and treats. After that quick stop, we wandered over to the local Quiksilver store to meet Mike, Kate, and Simon; they were waiting for us with surfboards and a sweet rental van. After a short ride over to the other side of the island, we gathered up on the beach for a quick lesson on the physics of waves. We then took turns surfing and oohing and ahhing from the beach as our fellow shipmates braved the waves. We all did our best to battle the waves. Matt and Priscilla even rode a few. Despite being exhausted, we all crawled out the water smiling and invigorated by the challenge. After surfing, we went back to Gustavia to shop and shower. Even though the shopping was nice, I think most would agree the freshwater showers were the highlight! Around 16:00, we went back to the boat to get ready for our night out; Dinner at La Select, where Jimmy Buffet wrote “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” it was delicious and gave us a chance to relax after another long and exciting day.
