Today was a great day for the crew of Ocean Star. We awoke for a hearty breakfast and had our usual morning muster before shuttling to shore to meet Simon, who awaited us with a minibus full of surfboards. Ready to start our day-long surfari, we piled into the bus and headed for Lorient, where we found no swell. Well, actually, there were some, but it was very, very small. Before we got into the water, we had a quick review on wave dynamics for our oceanography class, and Simon gave us some tips on how to ‘get tubed’. We then grabbed the boards and paddled out. We soon discovered that the small waves were ideal for learning, and just about everyone was able to catch a ride before long. After a few hours, we had lunch on the beach. some chose to return to town, while others opted to stay out in the waves. After a long and satisfying day at the beach, we returned to Ocean Star for showers and changed into our evening wear and dancing shoes. After some cheeseburgers and fries, we all enjoyed a night on the town before a nice, long, and well-earned sleep.
