Location: St Barths
After an early morning and a solid presentation on Marine VHF (Very High Frequency) Radios by Ocean Star 1st Mate Cooper, our crew was all set for a spectacular day of surfing on one of St Barth’s many beaches. Unfortunately for us, the weather on this picturesque French Caribbean Island had other ideas. With Surfboards loaded in the cars, the heavens opened upon us. Heavy rain, thunder, and lightning were the theme of the morning. A decision was made to abandon the surfing lessons and instead head back to the boat for some A.C, popcorn, brownies, and a movie. There was a choice between a sailing-themed movie “Captain Ron” aboard Ocean Star or a firm Rom-Com favorite amongst the group, Love Actually, which was played on board Firebolt. As the weather started to clear around mid-afternoon, a few of the students decided to explore Gustavia and the pristine “Shell Beach” in particular. On tonight’s agenda, the Advanced Open Water divers are taking their deep diver knowledge review in preparation for their diving in Saba, while the other students have a bit of free time to indulge themselves in one last crepe or gelato prior to tomorrow morning’s departure.
