Thanksgiving’s eve has come at last
Tomorrow shall we feast at length
With reluctance thaws the bird
A poultry glacier doomed to roast
In the brine she goes tonight
The gobble will be gobbled up

Today the galley saw no rest
A teenage army made it so
The yeasted breads and pastried doughs
Filled every pan and all the stove
Potatoes surely are not safe
If only they could flee

Hear the lamentations now
Of pumpkin spice and brusseled sprouts
The cranberries may cran no more
The stuffing knows what is to come
Their wailing is to no avail
We will give our thanks and eat

A haiku:

Thanksgiving dinner
Under tropical sunset
It is devoured
