Today was a special one; we started off with a breakfast containing bread, eggs, sausage, watermelon, and yogurt, then headed to the Baths, a completely beautiful collection of tilting and piling rocks that form countless well-lit caverns filled with clear turquoise sea water. There is nothing like a good run ashore, and after a few twisted leaps from the jumping cliff, the crew is replenished with a variety of gloriously cold smoothies and ice cream from the little shake shack. Once aboard Vela again, we made for Great Harbor Peter Island, on the bay, which ensued our introductory classes to oceanography and leadership. From the mention of Ben Franklin, I am fervently excited for the next class. The leadership class, manned by Emma and Dan was both comical and very insightful, and I think to speak for most of my mates on the fact we are very happy with the teaching and prospect of future assignments.
The day melted off into the sunset with a lecture from our good Captain Tom on the safety station bill, followed by a dinner of pasta and butternut squash. As skipper today I managed to set the crew to toasting “Choknimsya” a traditional Russian prayer to health, pleasure, and prosperity.
PS. To Mom and Dad, tell Kirill that. It should make him smile and also tell him he was rightI am crazy, lol. Please do not be concerned. I am alright. I love and miss you both so much. (Tell Aunt Carolina “sweet potato,” and she will tell you what it means in terms of feeling. My love to you all.
