Today we woke up to the smell of Mollys coffee cake, and in my opinion, it was one of the best breakfasts yet. We then put together our dive gear and began our rescue diver skills while the first group of students took their Navigation Master exam. We learned how to save Zoe by throwing a floatation ring, and then we practiced saving panicked and tired divers. Once we dried off and were about to relax, we had a surprise drill run by Aidan and Zoe as they jumped in the water, panicking and screaming from each side of the boat. Aidans team was successful with their efforts, while Zoes team left her drifting away in the water with a flotation device that, unfortunately, wasnt attached to the boat. After Zoe and Aidan were safely on board, I lay down and quickly fell asleep until lunch. Naps are scarce on this boat, so we are always lucky when we get the chance. Then it was time for my nav master exam. Although I had some difficulties with reading the directions, I believed I managed to pass. We also went through 4 lectures of oceanography today, before and after dinner, but during dinner, we were joined by our 19th crew member on our ship, the ravenous seagull. We sat down with our bowls of pasta as the bird flew in from the distance. He landed on the main boom and squeaked at us for some leftovers. As he swooped down for the food, Gabe stood guard as the protector of our second helping of pasta. With the bird agitated and hungry, it retreated to the boom and had a standoff with Gabe. Successfully, it flew off into the sunset, leaving Gabe and his mighty crew victorious. We all went to bed with full stomachs thanks to Gabe.
