Location: Underway to Nuka Hiva

Another day on passage! Today, I, along with the rest of watch team three (Emma, Morgan G, Jay, Graham, Henry, Caro), were woken up at 7:30 for our morning watch after our first night’s sleep with the engine off! We started with some sail handling with Mac, then went into a knots competition that Henry dominated. After lunch, the students had an oceanography quiz and leadership class, where they had to write out explicit instructions to make a PB&J, which ended up with Mac’s hands covered in peanut butter and my face in jelly.

Everyone seems to have gotten into the swing of passage life, and we have been enjoying some cooler weather since making our way away from the equator and into the Trades. It’s also hard to complain when we get a stunning sunset every night and are sailing through the middle of the Pacific on a Thursday afternoon! We’re seeing lots of wildlife, including a pod of spinner dolphins that came through to hang out around dinner time and plenty of flying fish and squid that have been ending up on deck. Also, (fingers crossed) Vela’s YouTube video from the Panama Canal should be posted in the next few days, so keep an eye out for a glimpse into our experience going through!!

Mum, Dad, Derek & Andrew: I miss you guys so much and talk about you all of the time. Talk to you soon!!
