Hello all,
The day began with some folk music (Fig For a Kiss by Caimhn Raghallaigh, of course) and Amanda C’s English muffins with D, Matt, and Carly’s fried eggs. A delicious start to a delicious day.
We left our anchorage in Bali soon after breakfast and set sail for the Gili Islands! While underway, we had an Oceanography class with Human. Midway through class, water bottles, hot water heaters, and pumpkins begin slipping and sliding across the salon but fret not. We did not allow them to distract us from our academics. We love boat school.
After our first class in the morning, watch team three was on watch from 10 am-1 pm. They raised two sails in order to harness the power of the skies for our travels.
For lunch, D, Carly, and Matt were back at it again with Mediterranean wraps. Yum. Filled with fresh veggies and homemade tzatziki sauce, we faced a Marine Biology fish ID quiz (which I’m sure we will all soon find out we aced). After the quiz and a review class, we got some restful free time while watch team 1 (bowm Bowwm) was on, and finally, took our slippery, abrasive, and thrilling passage deck showers.
Watch team 2 was the last group for the day and brought us into the Gili Islands (!!). They lowered and flaked the sails that watch team three had raised this morning. Flaking the sails (folding the sails back and forth like a fan over the boom) was type 2 kinda fun: fun that is only fun in hindsight. We lowered the anchor at 5:30, just in time for a PFD (personal flotation device)-free dinner.
The yummy sustenance D and her sous chefs provided for us tonight consisted of some spaghetti eggplant parmesan (we’re nearly all the way through Thanksgiving leftovers already!) Finally, we unpacked the boat and prepped for diving tomorrow!
This is my second and last Seamester log post. I can already imagine reading back on the logs in years and years. It’s like I feel nostalgia for the present.
Love to everyone I love at home,
Whitney
