Location: Tobago Cays

Happy Spring, everybody! Today was a very busy and productive day to say the least. After a very fun day on shore yesterday, we were all extremely tired transitioning back into passage mode, but the islands in the Caribbean are so close together, making for short passages! Around 8 AM this morning, we anchored down near Union Island to clear in to Saint Vincent & the Grenadines. It was so wonderful to wake up to blue skies and clear waters full of reefs. However, a catamaran had hit a reef, and we actively watched them abandon ship. Vela needed some love, so we did a mini BA (boat appreciation) where we cleaned our spaces down below, put sail covers on, and did a deck scrub. While finishing up BA, we motored over to the Tobago Cays, where we anchored down in a bay called Petit Bateau. Next to us was a giant sailboat that ended up being Class Afloat, full of students! Kyler and Vittoria made street-style tacos with homemade tortillas, pico de gallo, and a cilantro lime sauce for lunch – we ate every last crumb. This afternoon, we had a study hall where most of us scurried to complete our Oceanography literature reviews while others caught up on some well-deserved sleep. Being at anchor means being able to jump in the water and swim basically whenever we want, so swim breaks during study hall were taken. For dinner, we had Thai green curry and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. The squeeze question was, What was your first job? This led to many laughs as a student said he used to run an aggressive lemonade stand. We asked for some clarification, and quickly learned that his little brother used to be put in the middle of the road and stop cars to sell them lemonade! You gotta do what you gotta do, I guess! Anywho, today was a long, but wonderful, day, and we are so excited to be in yet another beautiful place!
