The departure of the 50-day-ers is on our minds, and we are soaking up the last little moments with them as best we can. We started today with a breakfast at the crack of dawn before setting out up the rock of Gibraltar again, but this time to go explore two tunnel systems. One of them was dug out in the 1700s in hopes of defending Gibraltar from The Great Siege that the Spanish laid on it. The other was a set of tunnels dug during World War ll. Both sets of tunnels were really interesting and had such cool history behind them. For the WWll tunnels, we had to wear hard hats. After that, we saw a Moorish castle that was the oldest structure there and had some cool history to it. We came back to the boat, and it was exam time. We all took our Oceanography exam, which means we are done with half of the course, which is pretty exciting. Everyone is looking forward to more scuba in the Med and the Group Research Project for Oceanography we are starting. My group has already taken a sample of plankton in the marina in Gibraltar; you wouldn’t believe the number of cool organisms that we found. We ended the day off with some free time to get ice cream or join in the soccer game that was fiercely contested in the parkall in all, a good and full day.
