It’s time to say goodbye to the British Virgin Islands, and move on to our next adventure. This evening we began our 260-mile crossing to Dominica! We left Savannah Bay early in the morning and dropped anchor outside Roadtown, where we loaded up two new life rafts and, at last, cleared customs! We spent most of the day preparing for our voyage, and it’s no surprise to us that there’s quite a lot to do. Early in the semester as it is, most of us, me included, are still adapting too the complexities of this amazing ship. There’s still so much to learn about her. After finally checking off the list, we left the harbor and made sail! It’s already a very different story than casually waltzing between islands. To sail straight into the horizon as you leave all trace of solid ground behind is absolutely exhilarating. We dined on delicious chicken schnitzel as the sun sank behind the waves, and our first night at sea begins.
